The Met-Arms and Armor and Ancient Egypt

Our first tourist stop was The Met. It was huge so we made a plan to make sure to hit the things we really wanted to see.

Nathan really wanted to see the Arms and Armor part of the museum. He and Jeremy spend a lot of time looking at old weapons and armor. Elizabeth and I weren't quite as interested so we kind of walked around more quickly. We also took the glass elevator up and down several times while the boys were looking at the old weapons!

Horses with armor the horses would have worn.

King Henry VIII armor from when he was older and bigger. It was from 1544.

King Henry VIII armor from when he was younger.

Elizabeth thought these were pretty and detailed.

Elizabeth was most interested in seeing the ancient Egyptian part of the museum.
Here is the Temple of Dendur. It was built around 15 B.C. The Met got it in 1978.

This piece looked and felt brand new even though it was thousands of years old!

The kids thought the mummies were just fabulous. It was probably their favorite part of The Met.

These had faces made of gold at one time. I'm sure those didn't last long.

These models were one of my favorite things in the museum. They are from about 2000 B.C and found in a secret room in a tomb that graverobbers never found. The models are about 4000 years old. They look like toys the Egyptians carved and painted! They are so realistic it was unbelievable to me that they were created 4000 years ago.

They carved boats.

They carved animals and barns. They basically created models of their lives in 2000 B.C.

Here they carved what the inside of their homes looked like!
