Jurassic Park Field Trip 4/29

The middle school orchestra/band/choir took a field trip to Spokane to see the Spokane Symphony play the Jurassic Park soundtrack with the movie playing in the background.

First, they went to Wonderland. It's a family fun center in North Spokane. Jeremy volunteered to chaperone this trip so he took a few pictures.

Nathan Track Meet-Kiwanis Twilight Invite-Hermiston, Oregon

The very next day after Nathan set his PR in the 1600, he got invited to run at the Twilight Invite in Hermiston. They took top 4 and he was top 4 from Hanford who was able to run at the meet. He wasn't looking forward to it since his legs still felt dead from the night before. Plus, it was the first very hot day out and they got there early and he sat out in the heat all day. So he said this was his worst race of the year since he was still tired from the night before. He ran a 5:36.

Nathan Track Meet 4/27-Richland High School

This was another day we had 2 meets on the same day at about the same time. Luckily (not for the people there) Nathan's meet was running about an hour behind due to timing issues. So I was able to watch Elizabeth's events and then rush right off to Nathan's.

I saw him throw the discus briefly and then he was set to run the 3200 again like last week. His coach had again asked him to do it with 2 of the other freshman.  The other teams were Hermiston and Richland.

Nathan ran an 11:20 for his second time ever so he knocked off a lot! It really drained him though. He said his legs were deader than usual.  So he had a PR in the 3200 and he ended up with a PR in the discus as well! He threw 69' 3."

Elizabeth Track Meet 4/27-Libby Middle School

Elizabeth had a home meet against Carmichael, Reynolds and Ochoa. She threw the discus and ran the 400.

She had a lot of fans this meet! Papa Norm, Gram, Auntie Laura and Papa Ray were all there. Plus, some of her friends showed up.

Elizabeth with her discus throwing buddy. Notice Papa Ray and Jeremy photobombing behind them?

She threw 49'4"

Some more teammates who all threw discus

Some of her non track friends stopped by as fans of the week.

Lining up for the 400

She is always very nervous

Coming in to the finish line. She ran 1:15.95. She earned her $100 from Papa Norm who said if she could run under a 1:16, he would give her $100. So she did it!

After her race, we rushed off to RHS to watch Nathan.

Elizabeth Track Meet 4/20-Stevens Middle School

Elizabeth had a meet the next day. It was at Stevens Middle School in Pasco. The teams were Libby, Enterprise, Stevens, and Ochoa.  We didn't think the weather could get colder, but it did! There was no rain or hail though so that was a bonus. Just freezing cold and windy.

Elizabeth threw the discus. She threw 47'4". It was the longest throw for 7th grade girls so she won the discus and got first place!

Smiling even though she was freezing. She sat with us under the sleeping bags until her 400 meter run. We tried to keep her warm, but it was no use.

Lining up for the 400. They put all the girls together both 7th and 8th grade because there was only 1 8th grade girl.

Lining up for the race.

Coming in to the finish. She ran it in 1:16.95. We then went right home because we were so cold.

Nathan Track Meet 4/19 Hanford High

The meet on 4/19 was at Nathan's high school and the opponents were Pasco and Walla Walla.

This was sure an interesting meet for Nathan. It was his first time running the 3200. Coach put all 4 of the freshman distance runners in the 3200. Of course, the 3200 was about the last event of the meet. The weather was ridiculous. Windy, cold, some rain. At one point, a fun hailstorm came through!! Gram and I put up our umbrellas so we could shelter from the ice pelting from the sky. Jeremy had been off getting sleeping bags to keep warm so he just hid in the van while the hail came down. Nathan had the shed to go inside.

Coach encouraging the 4 Hanford freshman.

Lined up for the start.

He finished his first ever 3200 in 11:48. He said the cold wind hitting him in the face 8 times wasn't fun and he didn't enjoy the race very much. We thought he had missed throwing the discus because he had a 30 minute warmup for his race and then the race itself took a while. We saw them cleaning up all the discus area so just thought he'd missed his heat due to his race. Then, the announcement came over the
intercom and we all laughed. "Will Nathan Wakeman please report to the discus area. We know you just finished running the 3200 but are waiting for you to come throw."

So I guess part of his cool down was jogging over to the discus and trying to throw right then and there. The discus coach said his legs were actually shaking as he tried to throw as he was so tired from running. It was not his best throw....

My photographer friend did manage to capture his discus throw, so that was neat!! By far the best pictures of the discus we have.

His discus was 58' 11". It was his shortest throw of the season.

Elizabeth Track Meet 4/12 at Libby

We rushed from Nathan's meet over to Elizabeth's meet at Libby. I missed her throwing the discus but we go to watch her run the 400.  Their team was racing against Reynolds, Ochoa, and Horse Heaven Hills.

The start line. They look a little chilly! As you can see, Libby also got brand new uniforms! We sure wish Hanford would too. They have like 5 different styles of uniforms for one team!

Instructions from Coach Holmberg.

At the start marks.

Coming into the finish. Elizabeth ran 1:19. She threw the discus 45 feet, 3 inches.

They were the only two 7th graders in the race! The other girls were 8th graders.

Another friend who came to watch her friends.

Another of Elizabeth's friends after her race!

I also ended up running into a friend from college whose daughter was there running for another team!
