3/30 Orchestra Concert

After Elizabeth's track meet, we zoomed to her concert.
Here she is getting ready to play in the front row.

Her friend had ran her 1600 and come right to the concert without eating. Elizabeth's race was after hers so there is no way we could have made it.

The same girls that were in the track photo a few hours earlier haha!!

Track Meet Chief Joseph Middle School-Elizabeth 3/30

Elizabeth had her first ever track meet at Chief Jo Middle School in Richland. As usual, it was freezing. She signed up to throw the discus and run the 400. Unfortunately, she also had an orchestra concert the same night. After the discus, we just left. She would have been late to orchestra if we had stayed for the 400. Orchestra concerts are part of her grade so it was very important she was there. She only threw the discus this meet.

Warming up with her friends. I think her friends are her favorite thing about track!

Being silly.

Her track buddies.

Waiting in line for discus with her other track buddy.

Her first time throwing.

We think she threw about 45 feet. The official results haven't been posted yet. I may have to update this. After her throw, we headed for her orchestra concert!

Richland River City Relays 3/29

Nathan's next meet was also at Richland High school called the River City Relays. He was again allowed to choose 2 events so he chose the mile and this time the discus. He has barely had any discus training at all, but decided to try it anyway!

He got a PR in the mile! He ran it in 5:24.  We think his new distance spikes might have helped knock off 5 seconds!

Line up for the mile. He was in the 2nd of 3 heats and the only Hanford runner in his heat.

Finish line sprint.

Final times.

He was in the 8th heat of 8 for discus. It was 3 hours between when he ran his mile and when he threw the discus. I was a little chilly. Gram and Papa left after the mile when they learned he had a lot of time to wait until the discus. Luckily, one of Nathan's friends showed up so he chatted with him for awhile.

You can see there was no one left since he was in the last heat to throw!

Results from Athletic.net for 1600. 5:24.

Results from athletic.net for discus. He threw 60 feet, 7 inches. It was his first meet throwing a high school discus.

Richland Jamboree 3/18

Nathan had his first ever high school track meet! It was at Richland High School. He was in the Richland Jamboree. He was allowed to do 2 events. He chose the 1600 and the javelin. It was his very first time ever throwing the javelin and he'd done it in practice just a few times. He had run the 1600 before in middle school.

I sat in the car for a while because it was cold out. and they had over 20 heats for the 100 meter dash.  It was a Saturday morning. You can see here where the Hanford team makes camp. They have a few tents and have nice bathrooms right there next to them. They sit above a big "H" since technically the field is shared by both Richland High and Hanford High for varsity football games.

Here's Nathan's first race! He was in the 2nd heat of the 1600.

Coming in to the finish line. He ran the mile in 5:29. Papa Norm had told him if he could break 5:30 sometime this season, he would give him $100!! Well, Nathan did it the very first meet. You should have seen the look on Papa's face. He thought it would take all season.

Here's Nathan doing the javelin warmups.

Javelin warmups. He says it's much harder than it looks.

You can see the big H on the other side of the field with the Hanford tents. That's their camp.

Nathan throwing the javelin.

Official results from the 1600. 5:29.

Here are his results off athletic.net.

Javelin throw results. 49 feet, 7 inches.

A visit to Selah

Beau was born on February 19th! We went to meet him a few weeks later.

The kids with their cousins.

Brady was getting very good at cutting up fake carrots and making soup in his little kitchen.

He was also very good at driving the lawnmower.

Brian started some fires.

Elizabeth and Brady

Eating some smores.

Keeping an eye on the fire.

Brady didn't want to get off the lawnmower.

Jeremy and I took turns holding Beau. He was SO tiny and back up to his birth rate. He was about 2 weeks old here.

Brady also had a little fake grill they cooked on.

Brady wanted to hold Beau. That lasted about 1 minute.

I love to hold little babies.

2 weeks old! He didn't stay awake too long.
