Pacific Beach, San Diego

We spent the afternoon and evening on Pacific Beach in San Diego. The kids had great fun. They made a gross seaweed castle. We saw dolphins swimming.

We got back to our hotel just as the sun was setting. It was very pretty!

Here is the exact same view in the morning.

Here are some views from our hotel in San Diego.

After packing up, we headed north! We were officially on our way home. We drove back up through LA and on to Yosemite.

I liked how some of the highways in California had these pretty flowers growing in the medians.

USS Midway

The next day, we toured the USS Midway. It is an aircraft carrier that was named after the Battle of Midway. The USS Midway was built in 1945. This was one of the last types of ships we had to tour! We had toured a battle ship, a submarine and a destroyer. We have now been to most of the ships in the game Battleship!

We saw some big ships on our way to the Midway.

They had a lot of old war planes.

The anchor room.

The radar room.

You could sit in different cockpits.

This was President Bush's war plane. This was the Barbara III. He named all his planes after his fiance. I am not sure if it was Barbara I or II that he had to bail out from.

Practicing ejecting from their seats.

The plane they used in Top Gun.

San Diego harbor view.

This is the helicopter that picked up most of the astronauts from the Apollo missions when they landed in the ocean.

You can see all the little apollos on the side.

We also toured below. It was very similar to all the other ships we had toured. Here they are in the Brig!

Sea World

We went to Sea World! We got there right when it opened and had a fun day.

Tide pools and touching little creatures like starfish.

We watched the dolphin show! Elizabeth wanted to sit in the "soak zone" and boy did she get wet! The rest of us sat up high and stayed dry. Then, she complained she was cold.

We went to the Orca show too. Elizabeth sat in the "soak zone" again but the whales must not have thrown the water her way as she didn't get wet hardly at all!

There were dolphins jumping behind her in this pool but they would never jump when I was trying to take pictures!

Sea Turtles!

We also went to a funny show with seals.

Nathan, there is a shark behind you!

They liked the ride "Atlantis." It was super long wait during the middle of the day (like 45 minutes). We waited until the evening, and there was barely a wait at all! The kids road it several times.

The kids also enjoyed this ride called "The Manta." You can see them sitting right in front. They had to wait in a special line for that and the wait was quite a bit longer....
