July Weather

Here is the sun report for July

Sunny: 25
Some Sun/Some Clouds: 5
Cloudy: 1
We had 0 snowy days.
We had 0 foggy days.
We had 3 days with some rain.
We had 0 days with crazy wind (over 20 mph)
Smoke from fires: 1

July was a really nice month! It was the coolest July we've had in a while for sure. Most of the time it was in the 80's and low 90's. I think we only hit 100 degrees two times! That's amazing for our area!

We also had more rain and clouds than normal. It was nice having a bit of that cooler weather. No big fires have started yet either so that has been great!

The last day of July a large brush fire started in Yakima County. We had bad smoke that day. I'm going to add a Smoke category to the weather. If there is going to be smoke, it always August!

Our yearly total for 2016 through July:

Sunny: 136 days
Some sun/some clouds: 45 days
Cloudy: 32 days

Snow: 3 days
Fog: 9 days
Rain: 31 days
Crazy Winds (over 20 mph): 16 days
Smoke from Fires: 1 day

Slip and Slide

While at the grandparents, we pulled out the slip and slide. It should have been fun but there was a lot of fighting about taking turns and running into people.

Wheat Harvest

Papa Norm's wheat was ready to combine so we headed up!

Papa doesn't have his own combine, so he hires someone to do it.

Here is the wheat pouring into the truck! The truck will drive to Kennewick to get the wheat to the river.

Climbing up to join Luke the combine driver.

Watching the wheat pour into the hopper which was pouring into the truck.

There was plenty of room for all! An extra seat for me and Nathan could squeeze between me and Luke. Elizabeth sat on my lap. Mostly though, the kids just stood up and walked all over and around the steering column.

The combine was on GPS so no one actually needed to steer except around corners. Here is Nathan steering around a corner.

Driving along at 1.9 mph. No hands on the wheel!

They had lots of room to stand. They liked to pretend they were surfing on the wheat.

When Luke hopped out to check on something, the kids wanted to check out the driver's seat.

After riding for awhile, we let Luke continue on his way.

Watching him go.

The clouds were really pretty that evening. They were rather threatening thunderheads but luckily nothing came our way!

Playing at the track

It's fun to go over to the track. I can walk around and the kids jump and play in the "big" sandbox. Works for me!

Elizabeth builds big sand castles!

Nathan runs, jumps, and destroys the castles. It turned into a game.

Perfecting her castle.

Tooth #4 Gone

Elizabeth lost her 4th tooth yesterday! She had lost the 3rd tooth the day before. The 4th tooth was super wiggly but she refused to do anything about it because it "hurt."

We were eating lunch at Gram's when I looked up and said, "Elizabeth, where is your tooth?" She gasped and said "Oh no!" She then tried to wiggle it but it was gone. We have no idea where it is so we assume she accidentally ate it.

She looks so cute now with 4 missing teeth!

The tooth fairy came anyway.

Tooth #3 gone!

Tooth #3 FINALLY fell out yesterday on July 26. It was a top tooth and it was just hanging on there for like 10 days. It was getting gross but Elizabeth refused to pull it. She could spin it nearly all the way around! Then, she was having problems eating and brushing.

After dinner yesterday, she was just wiping the milk off her mouth with a paper towel and the tooth literally just fell out it was so loose. No blood! She looks cute again! 2 top missing tooth are super cute...until they grow in. I wish it would stay like this until her 1st grade picture in a couple months, but I imagine the new ones will be growing in by then.

As you can see, there is still one super loose one on bottom. That story will be written tomorrow...

Fruit Drying Experiment

Brian and Karen are letting us borrow their fruit dehydrator for 3 years. Jeremy and the kids did a fruit drying experiment.

They found strawberries, bananas, pineapples, and apples worked really well.

Raspberries and blackberries did not do so well.

Originally, they put pickles in there to see what would happen. Within 5 minutes, we could smell pickles all over the house and realized it might contaminate the fruit and make it taste like pickles. They took the pickles out.

They made fruit leather buy spreading applesauce!

The finished product. Wow, it looks smaller!

Nathan's fishing adventures

Jeremy and Nathan went fishing again last weekend at our local pond. Nathan caught 4 fish! He caught 3 breem and 1 bass. He only brought home the bass and then ate it for lunch. Last time, he  caught a breem and ate it, but he said it didn't taste very good.

Here's Nathan with his bass. He measured it and says it's 10.5 inches. He said it was pretty tasty!

Here he is with 1 of the 3 breem he caught. He threw them all back.

Park Play

We went to play at the park after church last week. It was a great day so I took a few pictures.

The kids think this tree is really funny.

Rambling along.

Elizabeth stuffing 50 rocks into her pocket.

Throwing rocks into the river.

Climbing around on a steep hill that Nathan almost fell down.

Another big tree!

A Visit to Grandma's!

We went up to visit Grandma Pam. It also happened to be her birthday!

Jeremy did a bit of roof work.

The kids played in her creek a bit.

Elizabeth stomping around in the creek.

She told me she was trekking to the "End of the World."

She got her hand caught on a weed.

She liked to climb out the chicken's door and cluck like a hen.

She looked for a few more eggs.

Nathan really wanted to touch a chicken.

Elizabeth played with Uncle Brian.

Uncle Brian trying to shake out Elizabeth's loose tooth. Nathan was going to catch it. It didn't work.

The drive home.

It was a very pretty evening on the drive home.

The moon was really big just as we were getting home!

The new middle school by our house is really going up.
