Trip Day 9- Roanoke, Kittyhawk, and the Outer Banks

We made our way through North Carolina!! Our first stop was the island of Roanoke and the lost colony.  The pictures on this page got a little out of order and it's too hard to change them.

After we visited Roanoke, we drove to the outer banks of North Carolina. Here's a picture of when we entered Cape Hatteras.

Here's the sign for Nags Head.

The bridge heading from Roanoke Island out to the outer banks.

The sign for the lost colony.

They think this is where the settlement at Roanoke was before the people disappeared.

Monument to the lost people of Roanoke.

They had some pretty gardens!

Elizabeth loved the name of the gardens at the Lost Colony.

We drove down to the Bodie Island Lighthouse. I enjoy looking at lighthouses. They are so majestic!

We visited the Wright Brothers National Monument. This is where the first airplane flight happened in 1903.

Nathan with a replica of the plane that took off on that first flight.

The monument in the background. We hiked up and around it.

Laura and Nathan at the top of the monument.

The view from halfway up the walk.

Top of the hill and the monument!

This picture looks like Nathan is in front of a green screen.

Replicas of the hangers the Wright brothers used. These are in the correct location.

Laura and Nathan ran the distance of the first flight!

This is an actual picture of the first flight. They needed proof they flew. A Coast Guard member who was watching took this picture. He had never seen a camera before that day. He was told to push the button when action happened and it worked!!

Nathan on another replica of the plane.

We drove out to the ocean to see what the beaches were like in North Carolina.

The beaches were very pretty of course.

Elizabeth found some cool jellyfish at this beach.

Nathan AGAIN looks like he is in front of a green screen. Funny how this happened twice in one day. It must have something to do with his hat.

Here's one of the cool jellyfish Elizabeth found. She named it Gerald.

Pretty picture of the beach we were at. I'm not sure the exact name, but it was right on the Atlantic across the street from the Wright Brothers Monument.

We left after dinner and drove North. We made it to Virginia!!!
