Trip Day 10-Fly Home

We had an early morning in Nashville. We woke up at 4:30 and dropped the rental car off at 5:30. Our flight was at 7:30. We flew Delta on a 737-800. The airlines had just had a horrible problem with delayed flights and cancellations due to some computer update, but that had luckily all passed and we were fine.  We left right on time and landed 5 hours later in Seattle. It was 60 degrees with a breeze when we landed! I pulled out my fleece that I hadn't used the whole trip while we waited for the Jiffy van to take us back to our car. We got in the car and headed right for home.

A wildfire outside of Yakima.  You could see the column of smoke going right up and also see Mt. Rainier just next to it. Typical!

Trip Day 9-Kentucky and Nashville

This was our last day of our trip before we flew home. We started the day in Louisville, KY. On our way to Nashville, we stopped in Elizabethtown, Kentucky! That was a fun little stop.

Driving through Kentucky, they had lots of pretty looking fences along the highway.

We stopped at Walmart in White House, TN. We couldn't find the White House, but Nathan DID find his hot dog!

Our next stop was Nashville. We stopped at Centennial Park for lunch and the park had an exact replica of the Parthenon! That seemed very random. It was built in 1897 for a Centennial Exposition.  There is an art museum inside which we did not pay to go see.

The park was very pretty. We walked around a bit and had our sandwiches for lunch there.

We found a bench dedicated to Taylor Swift since I guess she probably started her career in Nashville. Of course, Elizabeth and I had to have our picture taken sitting on Taylor's bench. Taylor has such catchy and fun songs!

We then visited the state capital building. They had one of the 50 Liberty Bell replicas. This one was outside AND ringable!!! Elizabeth was so excited so she rang the bell.

Inside the state house.

A cool staircase in the capital.

We drove by the County Music Museum.

Then, we drove out to the Grand Old Oprey to see what that was all about and took pictures with the big guitars. The tours were expensive and we aren't that huge of country music fans so we did not go inside except to use the bathroom.

Listen to the bell ring!

We got to our hotel that evening and packed up to head home VERY early the next morning. We arrived to drop off the rental car at 5:30 AM.

A closet in our room. I hoped it was a shrinking machine so I put Nathan in. Nope. He came out the same size.

Trip Day 8 Dayton, Ohio and Louisville, Kentucky

We spent the morning at the Air Force Museum in Dayton. They had a lot of great planes!

Replica of Wright Brothers Flyer.

Elizabeth had fun in these little kid things.

Memphis Belle!

Bockscar. Enola Gay dropped one of the atomic bombs and Bockscar dropped the other. We saw the Enola Gay at the Smithsonian last summer.

Replica of the atomic bomb Fat Man that was dropped on Nagasaki. It was made from plutonium produced at Hanford. Bockscar dropped this one.

Replica of Little Boy that was dropped on Hiroshima. It was made from uranium and dropped by the Enola Gay.

After the museum, headed south. Here's the sign when we drove into Kentucky!

We stopped at the Louisville Slugger museum to see their big bat. The tours were kind of expensive and we were tired so we didn't go inside.

Downtown Louisville was relay neat!

We drove by Churchill Downs. You couldn't see much from the outside.

We drove over the bridge into Indiana. We didn't spend much time in Indiana. There are a few states we haven't done much in (New Mexico, Arkansas, and now Indiana).

Family photo with large bat.
