Day 7 Road Trip-Iowa Part 1

Our first stop of the day was the Field of Dreams in Iowa. Yes, the field from the movie. It was just off our path, so decided to stop and see it!
Elizabeth woke up feeling sick. She had a sore throat and a headache. She didn't have a fun day. I suspected it might be Covid so I kept her away from people and had her wear a mask in the few places we did have to run inside. We were mostly outside anyway.

It was very pretty at the Field of Dreams!

Our next stop was the Fontana Cemetery in Hazleton, Iowa. This cemetery was full of Spraggs. My 3rd great grandfather Charles Spragg (who died in the Civil War) had his whole family buried here. Both his parents John Spragg and Amelia Taylor Spragg (my 4th great grandparents) and his wife Amerette Hunter Spragg Miller (3rd great grandmother).

Amelia Taylor Spragg's gravesite. (4th great grandmother)

John Spragg  (4th great grandfather)

Amerette Hunter Spragg Miller (3rd great grandmother). After Charles Spragg died at 28 in the Civil War, she married Mr. Miller who had a farm near theirs.

Buchanan County courthouse in Iowa.

We also saw the largest frying pan in Iowa! I guess it used to be in the world, but someone made a bigger frying pan elsewhere?

Nathan cooked himself.

More pretty Iowa scenery.

We arrived in Des Moines to see the capital. We didn't stop long. Elizabeth was feeling pretty yucky and didn't want to go in.

The rest of us did just a quick tour to see the dome and other artwork in the main area.

After visiting the capitol we drove on to our destination for the night which was Winterset, Iowa.
