Last Day of School

The last day of school was supposed to be June 9th. Then, the state decided it would be June 17th since the kids missed a few weeks of school due to the schools trying to figure out what to do when corona hit.

It's been the weirdest school year ever. The kids were only in school for 2/3 of the year. The remaining 1/3 was kind of like a half education as the teachers assigned some things online and the rest they simply just didn't learn I guess?

We made signs and took the pictures anyway.  Nathan finished 6th grade and Elizabeth finished 4th grade. Neither kid missed a day of school all year!! It was a good year for not being sick.  They only went to school 120 days, but both were at school 120 days.  Nathan got straight A's this year! He got a certificate sent to him saying he got straight A's and had not missed a day of school. We never got a report card for Elizabeth for some reason, but I'm sure it would have been great too!

A visit from Elizabeth's teacher!

It isn't every year your teacher comes to your house! Since Covid closed school, Elizabeth's teacher came to give her her end of the year AR reward!

Baking

Elizabeth has decided she likes baking and cooking. She wanted to make her first loaf of bread. She went with banana bread. Since Nathan is allergic to bananas, she just used eggs in her bread. It turned out really well! She did great! I helped her put it in and out of the oven, but she did everything else herself. She even did all the dishes!  Since this time, she has also made chocolate chip cookies and blueberry muffins.

She's also spending her time building marble runs.

Where the sidewalk ends

Sometimes we ride our bikes to where the sidewalk ends. You can watch the sunset from there.

Dairy Free

Papa Norm and Gram come visit sometimes. We sit on the back deck 6 feet apart. Dairy Queen has finally made a dairy free ice cream bar with coconut milk and dairy free chocolate. On their last visit, they bought one those for Nathan. He said it was pretty good! Elizabeth ate her regular Dilly Bar.  We also have out our slip n slide and little blow up pool. No Pelican Bay this summer unfortunately. It's hard not having access to fun swimming.

Honor Roll

Nathan got a certificate for getting straight A's for the 6th grade school year! He was even in the advanced classes and worked hard enough to pull it off.  He also didn't miss a day of school this year (of the days we had school). They sent a certificate for that too.

Storm of the Decade

We were supposed to get the storm of the decade! We were supposed to get hail, tornadoes, crazy winds, rain, lightning and thunder.

Unexpectedly, we woke up to huge amounts of thunder, rain and lightning at 5 am. It woke everyone up so we watched as that storm passed. Then, we tried to go back to sleep. The weather forecasters had not predicted a morning storm.

They predicated a bigger storm for later that day. We waited around all day for the tornado and baseball sized hail that might hit! Look, we even put BOTH cars in our two car garage just to protect the car from the monstrous sized hail we might get!

Well, when the storm did hit we got some thunder and lightning and a little wind and rain. But where we were, we didn't get anything like the storm of the decade. But it's nice to know we don't have so much junk we can't fit both cars in the garage if we need to. It was a tight squeeze though.

Pippa's Ice Cream Party

Pippa had an ice cream party. However, the party had a sad ending. Pippa had turned 14 in June. The lifespan of a doodle her size is 12-14...
