There is only one remaining house in Plymouth that pilgrims lived in. It happened to be our relatives John and Elizabeth Howland! This house was the house of their son Jabez Howland. They lived with him during the winters when they were older. (We are descended from another of their sons named John). Since the house was actually a place we had relatives live, we took the tour and found it very interesting!
The original house was just the part where the door was. The 4 windows on the left side of the house were added later.
The house was built in 1667.
A lot of famous politicians are descended from the Howlands. That would make us cousins with many presidents and a prime minister and a Mormon church leader.
They lady who did the tour was also a descendant of the Howlands. Another cousin! We liked that we were touring a house our great grandparents lived in 350 years ago.
On the walls above this desk, there were letters written by John Howland that were framed.
We learned about everything revolving around the fire. We also learned about spinning.
These were notes on all the interesting things John Howland did throughout his life.
