We took a Spring Break Trip to the south to visit family. We also managed to get great weather while we were there too! Spring has been cold and yucky here, so it was nice to get some warmth and sun. The kids had their first plane trip. They were scared, but managed to do ok.
We drove to Seattle the night before and spent the night in a hotel right by the airport. The drive over was pretty. The mountains still have snow and it stood out against the blue skies.
The morning of our trip, we got up early and took our car to Jiffy parking and they drove us to the airport. We were the first to board the plane to wipe down the seats due to all the food allergies. Who knows who could have sat there before and what they could have eaten.
The plane had movies and TV shows. The flight was supposed to be 4.5 hours to New Orleans. Our plane had a 100 mph tailwind so we actually made it there in 3.5 hours. I had never heard of a plane making it somewhere an hour early before! We were there so early, they had no where for us to park, so we had to wait for awhile. It wasn't too long of a wait though.
Jeremy and Elizabeth sat behind Nathan and I.
Here was my best picture of Mt. Rainier out the plane window.
Here was the flight information. Jeremy especially had fun tracking the flight and the speeds, etc.
Nathan playing some kind of game.
We landed in New Orleans around 4, picked out a rental car and headed off to Alabama to Aunt Susie and Uncle Rod's house. It was a 2 hour drive. Above was driving into New Orleans.
Louisiana had some different kinds of trees.
We drove across a long bridge with a big lake.
Eventually, we got to Mississippi.
They had a space center near the Mississippi visitor center. This was a huge piece of a rocket!
The Mississippi visitor center/rest area was so beautiful!
No Washington rest areas are this pretty!!
Welcome to Mississippi!
They had a lunar module trainer there as well so the kids had fun looking at that.
Here was a little row of trees Elizabeth did cartwheels in.
We continued on to Alabama and drove across some marshy areas.
Welcome to Alabama!
We got to Aunt Susie's for a late dinner with cousins. Elizabeth had a lot of fun with her second cousin Mirabelle. Here, they dyed some Easter eggs. It was the night before Easter.
Elizabeth read her cousin some bedtime stories. Mirabelle is a kindergartner so just learning to read.
