Spring Break Day 6-National World War II Museum

When we got to New Orleans, we spent 4 hours at the National World War II Museum.

The museum had 3 buildings. It was a lot to go through.

In the lobby, they had a landing craft used on D-Day.

When you started the museum tour, you got to ride a pretend train. It tried to give you the experience of joining the military to head off to war on the train.

This train; however, had little TV's to watch what it was like to join up.

At the first exhibit, they had the facts about the number of people in the military. I had no idea we had so few people compared to Germany and Japan!

We then went through all the exhibits.

They had a house that was designed to be from 1943 so you could see what the family went through in terms of rationing and listening to the radio for updates.

Nathan liked the exhibits that talked about home...so clearly this one was about Hanford.

An Inigma code breaking machine.

Jeremy said he's always wanted a Grease gun!

They showed us how they dropped jeeps out of planes.

A D-Day exhibit.

A South Pacific theatre exhibit.

The log book from the pilot before and after he dropped one of the atomic bombs.

Metal bottles warped from the Atomic blast in Japan.

A flash burned vase from the atomic bomb.

They had a scary exhibit where you saw planes flying overhead of your bombed out shelter.

An exhibit showing how the allies made their way through France to Germany in the winter.

A piece of the Atlantic Wall that the Germans had put all around France and Germany to keep the allies out. It did not work.

The museum across the street was the Confederate Museum. We didn't have time to go there. They also had an art museum there. It was the museum district.

We went to stay with cousins! We drove back and forth over this big bridge a few times since they lived just across the river from New Orleans.

Nathan helped cook.

Everyone in their house has problems with lactose intolerance so they had almond and rice milk ice cream that the kids ate!

Jeremy's cousin was very creative with their ice cream.

Eating bedtime ice cream with their cousin.

Elizabeth and her cousin had a great time playing together.
