We drove to Florida the next day to go to Pensacola to see the white sand! It was about an hour and a half from where we were staying in Alabama. I had always wanted to see the white sands of Pensacola and I'm so glad we went!
Welcome to Florida!
We stopped at the visitor's center. The kids were excited to see their first palm trees. They had seem a few in New Orleans, but there were more here.
We made it to Pensacola!
Nathan had sharp eyes and spotted a dolphin swimming in this water. We watched it swim for awhile.
The kids were excited to head down to the beach. It was about 80 degrees and just perfect!
They had never been able to actually swim in the ocean before since they have only ever been to WA and OR beaches and you can't even stick a toe in without it freezing! And we even go to the Pacific coast beaches in the summer!
Our biggest challenge with the sun and white sand was keeping everyone from burning. Unfortunately, even with all our sunblock slathering, everyone had a few patches here and there where we missed.
The kids had so much fun playing out in the waves.
They also had a great time playing in the sand making castles. They kept building New Orleans and then allowing it to flood and then rebuilding it all over again!
Elizabeth dug a big hole to sit in.
My final picture of the beach. I did not want to leave.
Leaving Florida.
I forgot to post this picture earlier of Elizabeth standing in a group of palms.
