Nathan Track Meet 4/19 Hanford High

The meet on 4/19 was at Nathan's high school and the opponents were Pasco and Walla Walla.

This was sure an interesting meet for Nathan. It was his first time running the 3200. Coach put all 4 of the freshman distance runners in the 3200. Of course, the 3200 was about the last event of the meet. The weather was ridiculous. Windy, cold, some rain. At one point, a fun hailstorm came through!! Gram and I put up our umbrellas so we could shelter from the ice pelting from the sky. Jeremy had been off getting sleeping bags to keep warm so he just hid in the van while the hail came down. Nathan had the shed to go inside.

Lined up for the start.

He finished his first ever 3200 in 11:48. He said the cold wind hitting him in the face 8 times wasn't fun and he didn't enjoy the race very much. We thought he had missed throwing the discus because he had a 30 minute warmup for his race and then the race itself took a while. We saw them cleaning up all the discus area so just thought he'd missed his heat due to his race. Then, the announcement came over the
intercom and we all laughed. "Will Nathan Wakeman please report to the discus area. We know you just finished running the 3200 but are waiting for you to come throw."

So I guess part of his cool down was jogging over to the discus and trying to throw right then and there. The discus coach said his legs were actually shaking as he tried to throw as he was so tired from running. It was not his best throw....

My photographer friend did manage to capture his discus throw, so that was neat!! By far the best pictures of the discus we have.

His discus was 58' 11". It was his shortest throw of the season.
