Today was the Richland Invite. It was a HUGE meet with 42 teams. There were 4 different boys races. JV Freshman/Sophomores. JV Juniors/Seniors. Varsity 2 and Varsity 1. Varsity 1 was for large schools or very fast kids from smaller schools. Varsity 2 was for smaller schools or faster JV kids from large schools.
Nathan ran on Varsity 2. He's a faster JV runner from a large school. When he got there, he found out one of his teammates was sick, so they were down to only 6 runners. Varsity teams are allowed 7 runners.
Nathan doing some warm up stretches with his teammates.
The 6 Hanford runners waiting at the start.
Nathan on his first lap around. He was slower than usual and we were concerned he had injured himself. It turns out he felt too full from lunch and had eaten too much so it slowed him down some.
Making another one of the 36 turns.
Nathan coming around on his second lap. At this point, he caught up to 2 other Hanford runners. He would end up passing both of them before the end.
Coming around a corner on his 2nd lap.
Into the finish lane.
Just about done!
Mom and Nathan
Nathan's fan of the week was Darrin!
With Auntie Laura and Darrin.
With Gram. Papa Norm was unable to come as he was at a funeral.
Nathan placed 65 out of 109 on Varsity 2. This has his time at 20:12. My time and the big clock said 20:06 so I don't know what happened there with the time.
If he had run the JV Freshman/Sophomore race there would have been 270 kids in his race! Wow! The race officials said they had a hard time at the 2 chokepoints in the race getting that many kids through. So even though he would have placed better in the JV race, the varsity race wasn't as crowded for him.
Also, he kept saying people were cheering for him and yelling out "Go Nathan!" all the time and they were people he didn't know. Looking at the results, it was clear he ran near another Nathan.
Out of the Varsity 2 runners for Hanford, Nathan got 3rd out of 5. The 6th runner must have dropped out of the race due to injury. Nathan remembers passing him and then he just didn't finish so we hope he's ok.
