Nathan's grade school career is over! He graduated from 5th grade.
Here he is with his teacher and one of our neighbors.
He loved Mrs. Simundson. He had her for 2 years! No, he did not need to repeat 4th grade. She moved up to 5th grade!
He is wearing his AR points medal. He got the 2nd most AR points in the whole school! He had 976 points. The kid that won had 976.3. We were suspicious that the kid (whose mother is a teacher) kept up with Nathan all year and then the last day his mother was able to check the points and make sure he read one more small book to make sure he won for the school. Nathan was sad since he tried so hard to win his 5th grade year. We had to tell him that since the other kid's mother was a teacher, she had access to inside information we did not have. Sometimes, that is just how it goes even if it doesn't seem fair. The teacher's kids will have the inside advantage. We are still very proud that he did so well. He sure loves to read!!
Nathan was one of 6 kids in his class that got a gold presidential award. The other 5 were girls! He was the only boy.
There were about 20 5th graders who got the gold award. Here they are!
Nathan is moving on to 6th grade. The kids at his school will get split up between 2 middle schools. He will lose some of his friends next year, but will hopefully be able to make a few new friends who will be at his middle school that came from other elementary schools.
