We took a big 14 (which turned into 15) day trip to the east coast to see relatives and visit neat places. We flew from Spokane to Chicago. We then flew from Chicago to Boston. The flights were mostly uneventful but we had some "adventures."
We took Southwest. On the first flight, the floor where the kids were sitting was littered with peanuts. I crawled around trying to wipe them all up with wipes. I thought I got most of them. Nathan ended up with some hives on his legs that luckily didn't spread after giving him some benadryl. Otherwise, I don't want to think about having to bring the plane down to get him to the hospital. Yikes! We found out that the day we flew was the last day that Southwest was serving peanuts so I guess we were unlucky that day! The flight attendant told us that on the 3 flights she had flown that day, all 3 had someone with peanuts allergies so I imagine that is why Southwest stopped serving them. If you can't serve them on most flights, what's the point? You risk having to land the plane every flight for someone having an allergic reaction.
We got into Boston very late that night. It was around 1:30 am. We had to wait at baggage claim and then go pick up a rental car. Elizabeth thought the baggage claim carousel was really neat.
We tried to drive to our hotel north of Boston. The GPS went out as we went into the tunnels and we ended up missing our exit because of it. We had to head west on 1-90 for like 8 miles before we could even turn around. Luckily, it was 2:30 am so there were no cars on the road and we only went 20 minutes out of our way. If we had missed that exit in the middle of the day, it would have probably been an hour out of our day.
We made it to our hotel and our room was 5 feet away from a major highway. I got virtually no sleep that night. Most of the hotel rooms didn't have windows that faced the highway, but we got unlucky again since we didn't get there until nearly 3 am.
The next morning at like 11, we just got up and found our way to a McDonalds to eat something for breakfast. I had brought a bagel and a few other things for Nathan. After eating, we headed to Walmart to stock up on the things we needed. We needed a cooler, lots of food and a booster seat for Elizabeth. When traveling, Walmart is always our best bet. Since they stock most of the same things all over, it makes it much easier to get the foods the kids need without having to search.
The McDonalds in Saugas had light up tables.
The Walmart had a parking garage and an escalator to get up to it! The kids thought that was pretty neat.
The shopping carts even had their own escalator to get back down! The kids thought this was the best thing!
Here's the welcome to Massachusetts sign I took later in the trip since we didn't get one that first day in MA since we flew in!
After we had stocked up, we headed north to Maine to visit Uncle Brian and Aunt Karen.
