Nathan is 6!

Nathan is 6 years old today!

I need to write down a few things about what he's like at 6!

He'll be starting kindergarten in less than 2 weeks! He'll be in afternoon kindergarten. That was determined by the street we live on. All kids in our neighborhood will be in afternoon kindergarten.

He loves Angry Birds merchandise. He's got an Angry Birds backpack and pencil pouch for kindergarten.

Construction is another love. He loves big equipment and is having a great time watching the houses go up on our street. He gets his fisher price digital camera out and snaps away! He's got some pretty good photos too! Plus, he knows every step in building a house! He knows exactly what they're going to do next in their building process.

He enjoys gardening. Perhaps he'll want to be a farmer someday! He weeds our small garden with his shovel and does a daily check of what produce is ripe. He'll pick it and then bring it inside to eat. Next year we hope to have a much better garden!

When he's in the right mood (which is becoming more often) he and Elizabeth will play together. They can play really well together or get into a lot of fights. It depends on the day. Today has been rough as Jeremy is gone for 6 days for work and Nathan is having a hard time dealing with that. He's especially upset Dad is missing his birthday.

Nathan loves his art projects! He has little stuffed puppies and he likes to make them dog beds out of popsicle sticks. He also likes to cut and glue felt pieces and anything else he can get his hands on. He paints paper towel rolls and makes "towers." He likes to paint.

He and Elizabeth like to play the "Baby Game." Basically, they play house. When they're in a non-fighting mood, they just make up imaginative games to play.

Swimming is a favorite pastime as well. He loves swimming lessons and would spend all day jumping in and out of pools if I let him!

He's also OBSESSED with Laura's dog Pippa. In fact, he pretends he is Pippa ALL THE TIME. It used to be really bad. It's much better now. He just loves Pippa. He carries his stuffed dog "Pippa" around all day long and sleeps with her at night.

The bad news about his obsession with dogs? He told me he wants to be a Husky because he likes them better than cats. Uh oh! We better make a trip to WSU soon so he can see how great it is!

His yearly food allergy test showed he is still allergic to all the same things. It looks like he will need to have a 504 plan at school. I'll have to go in to the school next week to work that all out with the nurse and his teacher when we know who she is!

At this age, he is an excellent sleeper. He usually sleeps for about 11 hours at night. Usually 8:30 to 7:30. Lately, I've been putting him to bed at 8 so he's up by 7 (which is when the construction workers usually start) so the noise doesn't wake him up!

He's also an excellent eater. Gosh he eats! Huge breakfasts especially. Sometimes he'll eat a bowl of oatmeal, 5 sausages, and toast! I don't know where he fits it all! He tries not to eat too much junk food except a little treat after lunch or dinner. He keeps a "healthy food" chart and tries to eat a variety of fruits/vegetables every day. He does pretty well!

Any "baby" look is gone too. He looks like a big boy now for sure. He's around 50 pounds. Laura says his bottom 2 teeth are just a little loose so we'll see when those decide to fall out!

Oh, and he wants to be a construction worker when he grows up.
