The Richland Invite was Nathan's best race of the year and ended up being his PR for the 5000 meters! He ran an 18:38. He ran on the Varsity 2 team for Hanford. They ran the Varsity race for the 2A/1A/B schools. So the top 7 runners ran Varsity for the 4A schools and then the next 7 fastest ran for the 2A/1A/B race. Nathan ran this same race last year but smashed his time from last year. He had a great night's sleep the night before in his own bed and didn't have to get up early for the meet. He ran at 1:30 PM.
Warming up with his teammates for Varsity 2.
The start line. There was a false start as someone fell so they had to start again.
I love this photo of Nathan and his 2 teammates running in a perfect pack down the hill. Nathan is very strong on hills.
After going up the hill the second time, he passed all his teammates but one and then headed down! He kept that position on the last lap around the field into the finish.
I got a horrible finish line photo. This was the best I got. Nathan is behind that kid in front of him.
Nathan and 3 teammates after the race staring into the distance in a nice line. (In reality, their coach was attempting to hop the fence and they were spectators).
Discussing the fence hop.
Very seriously discussing the fence hop.
He got 23rd out of 134 on the Varsity 2A/1A/ B race.
Nathan finished 2nd for Hanford on Varsity 2. It was his best finish of the season.
If he had run in the regular JV race, he would have gotten 2nd place out of 238! Nearly a win!
