Day 6 Vacation-Broken Boot Gold Mine

The next day, we had to leave Norma and Donald's house.  The kids were sad and didn't want to leave. They loved riding the quads. They had loved the pancakes and bacon they got every morning for breakfast. I have never been able to figure out how to make pancakes Nathan can have, but Norma had it figured out and he LOVED it.

On our way out of town, we visited an old gold mine. We took a tour and learned about gold mining in the Black Hills 100+ years ago. I couldn't believe the miners worked down there 12 hours a day just holding a candle and ate lunch in the dark so they could save their candle.

Touring

Nathan found a wall of graphite and proceeded to touch it!

After the tour, the kids panned for gold.

They succeeded!

Each kid came away with a tiny bit of gold. The tour guide says they each panned about $4 worth of gold. They thought they were rich!
