Walking Home

The kids' school is a "walking school." There is no bus. Every child lives within 1 mile of the school so the kids have to walk or have their parents drive them. We make the kids walk the vast majority of the time. If the weather is really rainy/windy/or super cold, we will drive them. There are a few neighborhood parents who take turns walking and driving the kids.

It was such a beautiful fall day today that I took a few pictures of the walk home.

Elizabeth's backpack is huge. It cracks us up.

Almost home...

0.7 miles and we're on our street!

Weekend Activities

We spent some more time outside this Saturday. It might be the last nice weekend of the year!

Elizabeth practiced writing everyone's names in cursive and she made and threw mud balls.

The boys tried fishing. Didn't catch anything.

Throwing mudballs.

Showing me how she can climb to the top of the high bar!

I took a picture as she jumped down. Caught her midair! (Barely)

Same Park Another Day

The Dead Salmon Hunting was such a hit on Saturday that we had to go back Sunday to poke around at more fish.

Elizabeth did some monkey bars too.

Nathan catches another bass

Nathan caught another fish down at the local pond. It's an 11 inch bass.

When Jeremy cut it open to cook it for dinner, they found another tiny little fish inside. Plus, they found this big fake rubber worm in there. Gross!

Dead Salmon Hunt

Part of the "Play at the Park" yesterday involved a "Dead Salmon Hunt." The kids found 4 dead salmon that they were very excited about.

Giving me a hug picture before the hunt.

Looking for dead salmon near the shore.

Here was the first dead floating salmon they found. Nathan tried to fish it out with a stick, but it didn't go too well.

He got a branch with leaves and that worked much better to bring it in.

Everybody spent time poking it with a stick and talking about what big teeth it had.

Then, they found another one in the water which Nathan pulled up on the dock so everyone could have a nice look.

Then, they poked it with sticks and pushed it back in the water. There were also some floating ones that they couldn't reach.

It was just lovely!!

Welcome October!

Today was a fun way to start October! The weather was nice so I took the kids down to the park. We were there a LONG time. They are kind of old to play on the toys, I guess. They spent their time playing with sticks, rocks and having play adventures.

They slid down these hills a lot and got quite dirty.

They climbed a lot of trees.

Playing by the river.

Sliding down the hill, running up the hill, and then sliding down again.

Making river mud pies. Gross.

Doing something with sticks.

She found a lot of pretty leaves.

And a lot of pretty rocks.

These trees are so much fun for them to climb!
