Freshman Day!

Elizabeth is a 9th grader!! She had her first day of high school on Monday. It was the day before everyone else started.  Her school had a freshman only day where they had an assembly and broke into groups to learn about school. Then, they went to their classes in the afternoon for short amounts of time.

She had to ride the bus to school! She's never had to ride a bus to school in her life. Her elementary and middle school were so close to our house that no bus was ever provided so she had to walk or we had to drive her. The high school is 8 miles away though so the district provides a bus. Nathan will normally drive her, but he didn't have school today. Her friend came over and they rode the bus to school together.

After her first day, she went to cross country practice and Nathan did drive her home.

Nathan at 17

Nathan is 17! He is 5'9" tall and weighs 140 pounds.

When he grows up, he wants to do something in Engineering.

His favorite subject at school is Marine Biology and his second favorite class is LA or Biotech. He doesn't have any least favorite classes. He really likes school and always has!  We have started discussing colleges and even visited a few late this summer to start looking around. We toured CBC, WSU Tri Cities and CWU.

He likes to run and play video games with friends.

He is in 11th grade. He is taking Biotechnology, Marine Biology, American Lit/English 101, Algebra 2 Honors, American History, Kinesiology 2, and Photography.  His high school offers various "College in the High School" classes that he can take that will count for college credit. This year, he will be taking English 101 while in his English class. This will transfer to basically any college so he will not have to take it in college!

He's been running all summer in preparation for cross country this fall. He runs in the evenings around 8 when the sun is setting and it's cooler outside. We both take our runs/walks then. It might still be 95 degrees but when the sun isn't beating down on you, it's not too bad.  His Cross Country practices begin the week before school starts.

Nathan has been driving for over a year now. He's done great! So far, no tickets or no crashes. He will be chauffeuring his sister to high school this year now that she will be a freshman.

Food allergies are still the same. He's highly allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, and kiwi. He's intolerant to squash, sweet potatoes, peas, and bananas. He has Oral Allergy Syndrome to some fruits and vegetables. His OAS has gotten better as he's done allergy shots. Still not perfect, but he can now eat some things fresh that would have made his mouth itchy before.

Hanford Jamboree

We have 2 cross country runners in the house this fall! The first race of the year was the Hanford Jamboree. It was only 2 miles. It was 95 ...
